'Lessons in Family Law' presented by OCBA

The Oakland County Bar Association will present “Lessons in Family Law: When Client Counseling and Courtroom Advocacy Conflict,” on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the OCBA offices, 1760 South Telegraph Road, Suite 100, in Bloomfield Hills.

In practice, attorneys must act as both counselor to, and advocate for, their clients. In family law cases, where emotions and stress levels are particularly high, sometimes clients do not always want to follow their attorney’s recommendations. What happens in court in these situations? The seminar’s panelists will offer practice pointers for acting as both counselor and advocate when the client will not take the attorney’s advice.

Speakers include Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Lisa Langton, Mark A. Bank of Bank Rifkin PLLC, and Keri Middleditch of Middleditch Law Firm PLLC.

The cost to attend the seminar is $40 for OCBA members; $30 for OCBA new lawyers (P74739) and paralegals; and $60 for non-members. At the door price is $65 for OCBA members; $90 for non-members. Register online at www.ocba.org.
