Department of Natural Resources auctioning off state-owned land

LANSING (AP) -- The state is auctioning off by sealed bid more than 60 parcels of land in 12 counties.

Most of the auction properties are in the northern Lower Peninsula, with a few in the Upper Peninsula.

Many are near snowmobile trails, lakes and rivers and include several parcels with frontage on the Sturgeon and Black rivers in Cheboygan County.

In addition, there are numerous parcels near Interstate 75, the Straits of Mackinac and Burt, Mullett, Higgins and Houghton lakes.

Bids on the parcels must be postmarked by Aug. 2, and the bid opening will be Aug. 11 at the DNRE offices in Lansing.

Proceeds from the sale will go into a fund from which the state Department of Natural Resources and Environment can purchase additional recreational land.
