NOTICE OF AVAILABLE POSITION
The Federal Defender Office, a division of the Legal Aid & Defender Association, Inc.,
is now accepting applications for the position of Research & Writing Specialist at our Detroit Office.
The Federal Defender Office provides court-appointed representation to indigent defendants unable to afford counsel in the
U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
The Research & Writing Specialist provides advanced research and support services to staff attorneys on trial and
appellate cases, including assisting with briefs, motions, petitions for certiorari, and legal memoranda. The position
requires excellent research and writing skills, proficiency in computer-assisted legal research, word processing capability,
and the ability to understand, analyze and manage complex factual and legal issues. Candidate must be a law school
graduate and a member in good standing of any state bar. Salary negotiable, DOE, and is comparable to
salaries paid by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
