Grand Opening of new 14A District Court set for July 16

Kirk Tabbey, Chief Judge of the 14A District Court; Judge Richard E. Conlin, Chief Judge Pro Tempore of the 14A District Court; and Judge J. Cedric Simpson, Judge of the 14A District Court, have scheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, July 16, at 1 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the new 14A District Court facility in Pittsfield Township.

The keynote speaker will be Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young, Jr.

The new 41,000 square foot court building is located at 4133 Washtenaw Ave., at the County Service Center. Parking at this facility is limited; carpooling or other means of transportation are encouraged.

The new court facility enhances the District Court's presence in the greater Pittsfield Township and north central area of Washtenaw County aligning with the court's regional justice services framework, a spokesperson said.

The other 14A District Court facilities are located in Chelsea, Ypsilanti and Saline.

The new 14A District Court facility includes three courtrooms, judicial chambers, jury selection and deliberation space; offices for the clerks, probation and administration; and dedicated space for the prosecutor, public defender, private bar and other allied agencies.

It will serve all of Washtenaw County but, in particular, the Townships of Ann Arbor, Augusta, Pittsfield, Salem, and Superior; and the Village of Barton Hills.

The new court location opensfor business on Monday, July l9 and will be open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Improved access, more timely adjudication and improved customer service are expected benefits of this new court facility.

Staff will be on-site hosting tours from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the day of the ribbon cutting with the ceremony scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
