 Six students receive LSAT prep

scholarships from Warner Norcross
Six minority students at three Michigan universities have received Law School Admissions Test Preparation scholarships from Warner Norcross & Judd LLP.
The Warner Norcross program, now in its third year, provides scholarships to enable selected minority students at Michigan colleges to attend a study course designed to prepare them to take the LSAT.  Studies have shown that students who take a formal LSAT prep course score higher on the test, which determines entrance into law school.
The scholarship recipients are: Tony Anderson, Chanerica Evuen, Catrina Patton, and Morgan Peterson, from University of Michigan; Bruno Olvera, from University of Detroit Mercy and Patrician Swanson of Davenport University.
The LSAT program is one of two scholarship initiatives offered by the firm to promote diversity in the legal profession.  Warner Norcross also sponsors a Minority Scholarship Program that provides financial support to a selected law, paralegal and legal secretarial student.

Volunteer docents at Supreme Court Learning Center honored
Volunteers who gave more than 700 hours of their time to the Michigan Supreme Court Learning Center were recently honored by the Court as “ambassadors for the judicial branch.”
The volunteer docents guide school groups and other visitors through the 3,800 square foot education center, located on the first floor of the Michigan Hall of Justice, and perform other duties such as working behind the scenes on workshops and programs.
At a recent volunteer recognition event, Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly, Justice Elizabeth A. Weaver, and Justice Stephen J. Markman represented the entire Court in thanking the docents for helping to educate the public about Michigan’s justice system.
Volunteers attend a series of three-hour orientation sessions and commit to a minimum of eight hours per month.
The next series of volunteer orientation sessions will be offered on five consecutive Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon, starting Sept. 30. Applications are due by September 20. Visit the Learning Center web site at http://www.courts.michigan.gov/plc/volunteer.htm or call 517- for an application.
