Five teams of area architecture, engineering, and design firms, as well as students, competed in the third annual Canstruction® competition. The competition is co-sponsored by Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University and the law firm of Miller Canfield; supported by the International Interior Design Association Michigan Chapter, and endorsed by the Grand Valley Chapter, American Institute of Architects, and The Society for Design Administration.

The “sculptures” were on public display at the West Michigan Home & Garden Show March 3-6 at DeVos Place, to help raise awareness of hunger in our community. The cans will be donated to The Salvation Army’s Booth Family Services, a member of the Access Pantry Network.

Last year’s Canstruction event resulted in a donation of 12,000 canned goods, which provided about 10,000 meals for Booth Family Services, which offers the broadest array of social services for those in need.

Nationally organized, Canstruction® is a charity committed to ending hunger. In 2011, Grand Rapids joins over 175 cities around the world participating in Canstruction®.
