Northrup joins Plachta, Murphy &?Associates (PMA)

Plachta, Murphy & Associates (PMA), a full-service law firm, is proud to expand its current Veterans Disability practice group headed by attorney Miles J. Murphy III.

PMA welcomes Mark Northrup who was a 14-year commissioned officer in the US Coast Guard and served overseas and on ice-breaking buoy tenders.

He grew up with a military heritage, both his father and brother were US Air Force combat pilots, his uncle was a Marine on Iwo Jima.  He understands the Veteran community and can speak the language.

Following his time in the Coast Guard, Northrup continued his career in manufacturing, serving in leadership roles and more recently, as Mayor of Hudsonville. He is also a disabled veteran himself.
He has a strong VA background and deep passion for veterans. There are roughly 19 million U.S, veterans in the United States and many are unaware of their earned entitlement.  PMA has been serving veterans for over 20 years and notes many vets are unable to navigate paperwork and gather evidence to gain an appropriate and earned VA disability rating.

He has worked on cases including challenging undercover sting operations targeting gay men, fighting Michigan’s constitutional amendment prohibiting same-sex couples from marrying, defending the validity of second parent adoptions granted in Michigan, and advocating for a transgender high school student to be able to run for prom court.
