Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Marilyn Kelly will be the featured speaker at the 100th Anniversary Celebration of Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. (LAD) Friday, Nov. 6, at Ford Field.
LAD, Michigan's oldest and largest provider of free civil legal services to low-income people, was founded in 1909 and will commemorate its centennial at the celebration.
Kelly, who was elected to the Supreme Court for an eight-year term in 1996 and re-elected for another eight-year term in 2004, will at the celebration's dinner at 8 p.m.
The evening will begin with a strolling cocktail reception at 7 p.m., with an awards program following the dinner at 9, and dancing at 9:30.
Also during the dinner, LAD will present its annual Pro Bono Service Awards and two new awards: the Frank D. Eaman Warrior of Justice and the Ed Pokorny Pioneer of Justice.
