Consumers warned of unpaid toll road smishing scam
May 03, 2024Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is warning consumers of a recent smishing scam targeting toll road users.
The scam involves a deceptive text claiming the consumer owes money for unpaid tolls with a $50 late fee looming if the balance is not settled immediately. The message also includes a fake link deceptively made to look legitimate by using the name of a real toll company.

Attorneys general sign letter calling on congress to make ‘maximum possible’ investment in LSC
May 03, 2024A letter signed by 39 state attorneys general calls on Congress to provide the “maximum possible funding” for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) in FY 2025. The National Association of Attorneys General declare in the letter that a robust investment is critical to meeting the needs of low-income Americans across the country who otherwise would not have access to essential civil legal services needed to protect their homes, their safety and their physical and financial health.

Justice Dept. files statement of interest supporting private citizens’ right to sue under Voting Rights Act of 1965
May 03, 2024The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday announced that it has filed a statement of interest in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania supporting the right of private plaintiffs to bring a lawsuit to enforce Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act. This filing is one of many recent briefs by the Justice Department supporting the longstanding principle that private plaintiffs are authorized to bring lawsuits to vindicate important rights protected by the Voting Rights Act.

Nessel announces findings in Plymouth Twp. voter intimidation investigation
May 03, 2024On Thursday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the conclusion of the Department’s review of a Plymouth Township police investigation into an incident of alleged voter intimidation during the February 2024 Primary Election without issuing charges.
