Ex-Detroit mayor’s father skips deposition
(AP) — The father of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick did not show up in Texas for interviews in a civil lawsuit over the death of a stripper.
Bernard Kilpatrick was a no-show Thursday morning at his scheduled deposition.

The family of Tamara Greene says ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick stifled an investigation into her still-unsolved fatal shooting in 2003. He denies it.

Attorney Norman Yatooma wants to interview Carlita Kilpatrick and Bernard Kilpatrick about a long-rumored party at Detroit's mayoral mansion where Greene may have danced. Carlita Kilpatrick was expected to attend her deposition Thursday afternoon.

The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press say Yatooma is expected to file court papers asking that Bernard Kilpatrick be held in contempt.

Groups call for drilling ban in constitution
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Environmentalists and some lawmakers say oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico and a southern Michigan river are reason to put protections against drilling in the Great Lakes in the state constitution.

A rally was held Thursday at the Capitol to ask Michigan lawmakers to put proposals before voters in November.

The proposals would take a Great Lakes drilling ban that’s already in state law and put it in the constitution, making the provisions harder to change.

Some of the Michigan measures were introduced after this year’s oil well spill in the Gulf.

Last month’s oil spill in the Kalamazoo River came from an Enbridge Inc. pipeline and was not related to drilling. But environmentalists say it’s a warning about the vulnerability of the state’s waterways.

The nomination for the five-mile span was prepared by Tess Ahlborn. The associate professor of civil engineering at Michigan Technological University was asked to prepare the package by the Michigan chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, which is recognizing the bridge.
