Cooley to host forum on Constitutional  Convention Oct. 13
Cooley Law School and the League of Women Voters of the Lansing Area will present a non-partisan forum Wednesday, Oct. 13 on the advisability of holding a constitutional convention. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held 5:30-8 p.m. in Room 911 of the Cooley Center, 300 S. Capitol Ave., Lansing. Eric Lupher, of the Citizen’s Research Council of Michigan, will give the introduction, while former State Rep. Lynn Jondahl will serve as the moderator.

Speaking in favor of a constitutional convention will be Craig Ruff, Public Sector Consultants Senior Policy Fellow, and John Logie, former mayor of Grand Rapids. Speaking against a constitutional convention will be a representative of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, along with Cooley Professor Peter Kempel. Free legal seminars scheduled in October
Common Ground and Oakland Mediation Center have partnered to offer four legal seminars during October:

All seminars are presented by attorneys, are free of charge, and begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakland Mediation Center, 550 Hulet Drive, Suite 102, Bloomfield Hills. All seminars include a presentation from a representative of the Oakland Mediation Center on their services and the mediation process. 

The series will kick off on October 7 with a program on Probate, Estate Planning, and Elder Law. On October 14, a program on Family Law will be presented. The series continues on October 21 with a presentation on Bankruptcy, while the October 28 program will feature a discussion on Collections and Garnishment.

WBA to hold its first general membership meeting Oct. 12
The Wolverine Bar Association will hold its first general membership meeting of the new bar year on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. at the offices of Bodman, LLP at Ford Field in downtown Detroit. Our series of panel discussions continues with an examination of the role that race plays in the composition of state and federal jury pools.  Titled A Jury of One’s Peers: Fact or Legal Fiction?, the panel will consist of the Honorable Denise Page Hood; Michael K. Lee, National Urban League Board of Trustees; Greg Conyers, State Bar of Michigan Diversity Committee; and Heaster Wheeler, Executive Director, NAACP.
