Jaffe partner John Decker named Crain’s 40 Under 40 honoree
John P. Decker, partner with Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C., was recently named a Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40” honoree.

Decker was selected from more than 300 nominees representing the best and brightest professionals of southeast Michigan. He considers his legal work on the substantial transition of the Detroit Zoo from the city of Detroit to the Detroit Zoological Society as his greatest accomplishment thus far.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree with high distinction from the University of Michigan, his Master’s degree from the London Business School and his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.

Decker has been listed as a Michigan Rising Star consecutively since 2008 by Michigan Super Lawyers Magazine and was previously a Fellow with the Michigan Political Leadership Program.

Currently in its 19th year, the Crain’s Detroit Business “40 Under 40” list recognizes a multitude of successful area professionals in industries ranging from technology, real estate, consulting and medical, among others.

Bennett appointed vice-chair of ABA energy committee
Mark J. Bennett, senior counsel and team leader of Miller Canfield’s Climate Change practice, was recently named vice-chair of the American Bar Association’s Carbon Trading and Energy Finance Committee for the 2010-2011 term.

Bennett’s position with the ABA will concentrate on the confluence of the evolving areas of climate, environmental and real estate law and how they impact the energy efficiency of commercial real estate.

“The greening of our country’s building stock will gain increased attention as several jurisdictions are implementing transactional energy disclosure regulations and green building codes that will bring energy efficiency to the forefront of the due diligence process in commercial real estate transactions,” said Bennett.  “I plan to focus my efforts within the ABA to ensure that members are well informed as these new laws are implemented so that they can best serve their clients.”

He earned his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School and B.A. from Michigan State University.
