OCBA Municipal Law Committee to present brief writing seminar
The Oakland County Bar Association’s (OCBA) Municipal Law Committee will present “Brief Writing” on Wednesday, March 23, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Oakland County Bar Center in Bloomfield Hills.
This seminar presents strategic and practical tips on effective brief writing for trial and appellate courts.
Seminar topics will include:
• Brief Drafting for Summary Disposition Motions.
• Brief Drafting for Appellate Proceedings.
• Question and Answer session.
The cost to attend for those who pre-register is $60 for OCBA members, $40 for OCBA new lawyers, and $80 for all non-OCBA members. For those registering at the door, the cost is $80 for OCBA members, $50 for OCBA new lawyers, and $105 for non-OCBA members.

FBA committee hosts seminar on conducting trial in a complex case
FBA Complex Commercial Litigation Committee Seminar: “Conducting a Trial in a Complex Case – A Discussion with the Bench.” Join jurists from the Federal Bench as they discuss effective and practical approaches to the significant components of jury and bench trials in complex cases, including expert witness presentation, jury instructions, voir dire, Daubert motions and other motions in limine, and the handling of questions by jurors. SBM Representative Assembly accepting nominations for awards
Nominations are being accepted for two State Bar of Michigan Representative Assembly awards.
The Michael Franck Award is given annually to an attorney who has made an outstanding contribution to the improvement of the legal profession. The Unsung Hero Award is presented to a lawyer who has exhibited the highest standards of practice and commitment for the benefit of others.
Nominees for both awards must be members in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan. Candidate contributions may have been made during the past year or by virtue of cumulative effort or service. Nominations should include sufficient details about the nominee’s accomplishments. The Assembly’s Nominating and Awards Committee will review the applications and make a recommendation to the Representative Assembly. The nomination deadline is Friday, March 1.
