36th District Court to host Homeowner & Tenant Rights Clinic
On Wednesday May 4th, the 36th District Court will host a Homeowner & Tenants Rights Clinic for those individuals who are facing mortgage foreclosure/eviction after foreclosure.   Members from the United Community Housing Coalition will provide information about Michigan foreclosure law and discuss what help may be available to homeowners at various stages  in the process, what steps to take before the  Sheriff’s Sale, during the Redemptions Period and when confronted with and eviction.

RESTORE Foundation to hold fund-raising event Monday, May 16

The RESTORE Connection 2011, a fund-raising event for the Oakland County Drug Treatment Courts, will take place Monday, May 16 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Moose Preserve Bar & Grill, 43034 N. Woodward in Bloomfield Hills.
The RESTORE Foundation, a nonprofit organization, was created in the fall of 2008 with the mission of “restoring hope and dignity by helping individuals overcome substance abuse to the benefit of themselves, their families, and society by sustaining the Oakland County Drug Courts,” according to Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Wendy Potts, president of the Board of Directors.
At the event, The Oakland County Legal News will be honored for its continued coverage and support of the drug court programs and The RESTORE Foundation.
The May 16 event will offer the opportunity to learn more about RESTORE, its successful program, the Joshua Charles Short Scholarship Fund, and the 2011-12 mission. The informal evening will include food underwritten by Talmer Bank and Trust, and a cash bar.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. All proceeds will benefit The RESTORE Foundation or the Joshua Charles Short Scholarship Fund. Checks can be mailed to RESTORE at 5413 Pleasant Lake Drive, West Bloomfield, MI 48322.

Oakland County Women’s Bar to host annual dinner May 18

The Oakland County Women’s Bar Association (WBA) will host its annual dinner and installation of officers May 18 at the Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend St., Birmingham.
The installation of WBA’s new officers will begin at a ceremony at 5:30 p.m., followed by cocktails  at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The following individuals will be installed as officers: Stacey King, president; Elizabeth Smith,  immediate past president; Kristin Murphy, president-elect; Ryan Mae Steele, vice president; Melissa Graves, treasurer; Erin Klug, communications secretary; Kristen Pursley, recording secretary; and Channelle Kizy-White, WLAM Representative.
During the dinner, the WBA will honor Judge Nancy G. Edmunds of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, Judge William J. Richards of the 46th District Court in Southfield, and Judge Michael Warren of Oakland County Circuit Court. The WBA will present the second annual WBA Award to Patricia A. Stamler of Hertz Schram PC.
The cost of the dinner is $55 for WBA members, $65 for non-members and $40 for law students and first-year lawyers. Respond by May 13.
