Detroit judge orders Conyers to attend civil trial scheduled for Nov.
DETROIT (AP) — Former Detroit City Council member Monica Conyers will temporarily leave a prison in West Virginia to attend a civil trial in Detroit in November.

Conyers is accused of pressuring a nonprofit group to fire a man who wanted to recall her from office in 2009. Theodis Collins worked for an organization that receives grants from the city of Detroit.

Federal Judge Victoria Roberts has ordered U.S. marshals to ensure that Conyers is in Detroit on Nov. 14. She's serving a three-year prison sentence for corruption. When not in the courtroom, Conyers will be in custody.

Conyers is being sued along with the city and Mariners Inn. She denies a role in Collins' dismissal. Conyers is the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich.
