Miller Canfield lawyer re-elected president of French culture group
Miller Canfield principal David M. Thoms  has been re-elected to a one-year term as president of the board of directors of Alliance Françaises de Grosse Pointe.

At Miller Canfield, Thoms is a member of the Personal Services Group and co-leader of the Nonprofit and Charitable Organizations Group.  He concentrates his practice in estate planning and tax, non-profit organizations, business entity planning and tax, succession planning, and real estate.

He received an L.L.M. in taxation from Wayne State University School of Law, a J.D. from the University of Detroit-Mercy, a M.U.P. (Masters of Urban Planning) from Wayne State University, and a B.A. in History, with distinction, from Kalamazoo College.  He also attended l'Université de Caen, France.

He resides in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Brooks Kushman lawyer included on top patent prosecutors list
Benjamin C. Stasa, a patent attorney with Brooks Kushman, has been named a Top Patent Prosecutor by Patent Buddy and the Patent Research Review. Stasa joins the top two percent of the approximately 30,000 registered patent attorneys that have been honored with the designation.  

According to the listing, Top Patent Prosecutors are selected via a three-part process that identifies attorneys who have achieved a reputation among their peers for high quality work and counseling skills in patent application preparation and prosecution. The nominations are sorted by various geographical regions and general technology categories.

As an associate at Brooks Kushman’s Southfield office, Stasa prepares, prosecutes and advises on patents in the areas of software, computer organization, networks, solid state electronics, electronic circuits and communications. He currently represents three Fortune 100 companies and recently attracted one of the firm’s first energy storage clients. 

Stasa earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He also obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Michigan, a M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Oakland University in Rochester, as well as a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit. Additionally, he has pursued postgraduate studies in computer and information science at the University of Michigan.

A registered patent attorney and member of the State Bar of Michigan and Federal District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan, Stasa is also a member of the San Francisco Intellectual Property Law Association.
