SBM Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section gives Shining Star Award
The State Bar of Michigan Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section congratulates Vicki Voisin, winner of the August 2011 Shining Star Award. Voisin received the award for being an outstanding, nationally-renowned representative of her profession and a dedicated mentor to other paralegals.

Voisin has worked as a paralegal for over 20 years and has become a nationally recognized author and speaker, widely known for her paralegal seminars, her work mentoring other paralegals, and her unique approach to ethics training for legal staff.

She writes comprehensively about how paralegals can enhance and advance their careers in “The Paralegal Mentor: Strategies for Paralegals Seeking Excellence,” found online at  www.paralegalmentorblog.com. She is co-host of “The Paralegal Voice” on Legal Talk Network. And she authors a weekly online magazine called “Paralegal Strategies.”

She has served as president of the National Association of Legal Assistants and president of the SBM Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section. 

Shining Stars are Michigan paralegal/legal assistants selected monthly based on their outstanding charitable and/or community service works. Winners of this award are featured on the Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section at the SBM website at www.michbar.org/paralegal/.

MAJ to hold ‘Voir Dire Seminar & Golf Outing’
On August 29, 2011 the Michigan Association for Justice will host their annual Voir Dire seminar and Golf Outing at the Western Golf & Country Club in Redford. Terry Cochran and Steve Gursten will be co-moderators. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. The seminar begins at 9 a.m.  and the golf outing will be at 1 p.m.

Seminar topics include:
• “Using JurySmith, the Internet, Social Media and Other Tools to Assist You in Jury Selection” by David Wenner, author of “Inside the Juror's Mind”;
• “Tips and Strategies to De-Select the Anti-Plaintiff Juror” by Richard Rosen of Rosen, Rosen & Hagood, LLC, Charleston, SC.

A panel discussion will be held with Judge Donald E. Shelton of Washtenaw County Circuit Court; Judge David S. Swartz of Washtenaw County Circuit Court and Judge Jeanne Stempien of Wayne County Circuit Court.

Defense attorney Eaman to speak at PALS general meeting
The Polish American Legal Society is having a General Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14.  All members are invited. The event begins at 6 p.m. and will be held at P.L.A.V. Dearborn Heights Post 16 Memorial Home at 25222 Warren in Dearborn Heights.

The speaker is criminal defense attorney Frank D. Eaman.  He will speak about criminal and constitutional Law in the Post 9/11 era.
