Massachusetts Man sentenced for corporate espionage BOSTON (AP) -- A former employee of a Massachusetts company that helps websites deliver content to users has been sentenced to six months in prison for providing trade secrets to an FBI agent posing as an Israeli intelligence officer. Elliot Doxer of Brookline was also sentenced Monday in Boston to six months of probation with electronic monitoring and ordered to pay a $25,000 fine. The 43-year-old Doxer in August pleaded guilty to foreign economic espionage for providing trade secrets from Cambridge-based Akamai Technologies Inc. over an 18-month period. Prosecutors say Doxer sent an email to the Israeli consulate in Boston in 2006 offering to provide the information. Consulate authorities informed U.S. law enforcement. No company information was passed to foreign agents. Doxer's lawyer has said his client accepted responsibility for his actions. Iowa Mom accused of starting dryer with child inside MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Police in Mason City have arrested a woman they say started a clothes dryer with her 22-month-old son inside as punishment. The Globe Gazette reports 25-year-old Mallory Hakes, of Mason City, has been charged with child endangerment. Police say Hakes' son crawled into the clothes dryer in the home's basement, and when Hakes found him she shut the door and turned on the dryer with the toddler inside. Police say the dryer was on for no longer than a few seconds and the child wasn't hurt. The investigation came after police received a report of suspected child abuse. If convicted, Hakes could face up to two years in prison. The case was not yet entered in online court records and no attorney information for Hakes was immediately available. Missouri Settlement reached in Republic lawsuit SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- The Republic School District has settled a lawsuit in which a former student complained that school officials failed to protect her harassment, sexual assault and rape. The Springfield News Leader reports that terms of the settlement were sealed, but court documents show a federal judge approved the settlement and closed the case Nov. 29. In the lawsuit, the girl said school officials didn't believe her when she reported she had been harassed, assaulted and raped during the 2008-09 school year. After she recanted, she was forced to hand-deliver an apology letter to the boy and was expelled for the year. The lawsuit said the girl said she was raped again at school in 2010 and that school officials were again skeptical, but evidence showed a sexual assault had occurred. Massachusetts Rockport man gets 10 years on child rape charges SALEM, Mass. (AP) -- A Rockport man accused of raping a young girl multiple times inside the men's bathroom of a Gloucester store where he worked has pleaded guilty. Ronald Terelak pleaded guilty to four counts of forcible rape of a child under the age of 16 in Salem Superior Court last month and was sentenced to 10 years in state prison. Prosecutors say the 34-year-old Terelak also pleaded guilty to four charges of indecent assault on a child under the age of 14. Authorities say the assaults on the girl took place over the course of four years between May 2001 and April 2005. The Gloucester Daily Times reports that the assaults were brought to the attention of police by the victim's stepmother. Idaho Man gets 20 years prison for 2005 slaying of student CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) -- A state judge has ordered a Caldwell man to spend at least 20 years in prison for shooting a College of Idaho student in 2005. For 27-year-old Trevor Booth, the jail term for his role in the death of Leonard Kellum could extend to life in prison. Booth pleaded guilty in October to a reduced charge of second-degree murder, marking the second time he had entered a plea in the case. Previously, the Idaho Supreme Court granted Booth a new trial after declaring his original guilty plea was coerced. Booth was charged in January 2005 with entering Kellum's home and shooting the 23-year-old student five times over an apparent drug debt. Kellum was still alive when rescue crews arrived and he identified Booth as the shooter. Published: Wed, Dec 21, 2011
