Kalczynski appointed to the DMBA Foundation board

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, well-known commercial litigation attorney and community volunteer Kevin Kalczynski was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation during a meeting of the Association.

Kalczynski, of Barris, Sott, Denn and Driker, also serves on the board of directors for Boys Hope Girls Hope of Michigan, Inc. and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Professional Ethics Committee, the State Bar of Michigan’s Character and Fitness Committee and the Royal Oak Zoning Board of Appeals. He is the winner of multiple awards including recognition as a “Future Star” by Benchmark Litigation, a “Rising Star” by Superlawyers, and as one of The Best Lawyers in America.

“The work of the Foundation is important to me personally, and to the legal profession as a whole,” said Kalczynski of his appointment. “I am deeply honored to be selected to help continue the Foundation’s good work regarding the administration of justice, legal education, and meeting the legal needs of the under-served community in the Detroit Metropolitan area.”

“We’re consistently gratified by the caliber of professionals who are putting themselves forward to serve our Foundation, and Kevin is no exception,” said DMBA President Ben Jeffers of Dykema. “His breadth of professional and volunteer public service experience means that Kevin understands not just the work of the Foundation, but also why that work is vitally important during today’s economy.”

Lorraine H. Weber, Executive Director of the Foundation, said that she was “thrilled” about the appointment and is looking forward to working closely with Kalczynski and the rest of the Foundation on projects including the upcoming Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award gala reception on Dec. 4.

“We are currently looking at ways to both continue existing programs like the Detroit Legal Services Clinic and to expand on programs like For The Seventh
Generation — but even though Michigan’s economy is getting better, the fact is that it’s a challenge meeting the needs of our community with the resources we have available. Kevin’s background of success in both the for-profit and non-profit worlds means he has a lot of experience and ability to bring to the table.”
The DMBA Foundation supports a variety of community support programs including the Detroit Legal Services Clinic, which provides free legal assistance to people in need, the Thomas M. Cooley Pro Bono Mentorship Program, and For The Seventh Generation, which matches donations of services and goods with needy foster children in the metro Detroit area.
