Daniel N. Adams practices in the Litigation Department and is located in the firm’s Detroit office. He represents clients in a wide variety of commercial and bankruptcy-related disputes in state and federal courts in issues related to time-sensitive supply chain litigation, including breach-of-contract litigation, temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunction proceedings and lien disputes.
Adams represents debtors, creditors’ committees, customers, suppliers and lenders in commercial bankruptcy and reorganization proceedings, financial restructurings and liquidations. He earned his law degree from Emory University School of Law and a B.A. in political science from the University of Michigan.
Meghan N. Covino practices in the Business Immigration Practice Group and is located in the firm’s Detroit office. She focuses on employment-based immigration representing national and international companies in obtaining authorization for employees to work temporarily and permanently in the United States.
Covino earned her law degree from Boston University School of Law and a B.A. in French and political science from the University of Michigan.
Jennifer M. Hetu practices in the Intellectual Property Department and is located in the firm’s Oakland County office. She advises clients on a wide range of trademark matters in the U.S. and international markets, including trademark searching and clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and e-Commerce.
Hetu earned her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and her B.A. in political science from Western Michigan University.
Crescent A. Moran practices in the Corporate Department and is located in the firm’s Detroit office. She focuses on executive compensation and employee benefits matters, advising clients regarding equity compensation, securities law compliance, corporate governance, and the design, establishment, operation, qualification and termination of retirement and welfare benefit programs.
Moran earned her law degrees from Western New England University School of Law and from Georgetown University Law Center.

Dykema
Dykema recently announced that it is expanding its platform with a new office in Minneapolis, the firm’s first office in the state. The office, which is Dykema’s 12th nationwide, will be anchored by top corporate and commercial lawyer Joe Roach, who joins from Briggs and Morgan, and by top intellectual property lawyer Reed Heimbecher, formerly of St. Jude Medical. Dykema’s new office will be located in the Wells Fargo Center.
“Dykema has a long history of representing major industries rooted in Minneapolis, including counseling many financial institutions, medical device companies and energy facilities headquartered in the region,” said Peter Kellett, Dykema’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Joe and Reed bring decades of legal experience, successful practice group leadership, and respected community ties. Establishing a presence in Minneapolis at this time is a natural extension of our firm strategy to build our national platform with extremely talented and well-respected lawyers in key practice areas.”
Minneapolis is a dynamic Midwestern city and one of the premier medical device centers in the country. The progressive business community is also home to numerous Fortune 500 companies including Target Corporation, UnitedHealth Group, 3M, US Bancorp, General Mills, and Xcel Energy, among others. Dykema’s new office will provide the “boots on the ground” for the firm’s sophisticated practices in the areas of financial services, energy, biotech, life sciences and medical devices. The firm looks to add several intellectual property, litigation and corporate lawyers to the new office over the coming weeks.
The Minneapolis announcement follows the firm’s expansion in recent years into Charlotte, North Carolina and Dallas, Texas, as well as continued growth in key markets including Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Hurley focuses her practice on the professional liability and general liability defense litigation. Before joining the firm, she served as a judicial law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Thomas L. Ludington, Eastern District of Michigan—Northern Division.
She is admitted to practice in the State of Michigan, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth District Court, and United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Hurley, who earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan, is active in the State Bar of Michigan and Oakland County Bar Association.

Adrienne Dresevic, founding partner of Southfield-based The Health Law Partners, recently spoke at a Continuing Education Program for the Louisiana State Bar Association – Health Law Section. HLP Founding Partner Robert Iwrey made the announcement.
The presentation, titled “Navigating the Marketing Minefield: What Attorneys Advising Health Care Clients Must Know,” reviewed several legal issues surrounding health care marketing. Dresevic discussed aspects of federal fraud and abuse laws and provided background knowledge on the subject matter so that attorneys can ensure that their clients’ marketing tactics are in complete compliance with federal and state regulations.
A writer and speaker, Dresevic has published more than 60 articles on healthcare law and presents at national conferences throughout the year. Dresevic’s practice encompasses the full spectrum of health care law. She earned her law degree from Wayne State University Law School.

Professor of Law Michael McIntyre has been honored with Wayne State University’s President’s Award for Excellence in Service.
It’s the latest of many honors for McIntyre, who joined Wayne Law in 1975 and has been “both an inspiring teacher and productive scholar” ever since, according to WSU President Allan Gilmour.
An internationally acclaimed expert on taxation, McIntyre teaches various tax courses, writes widely on tax topics, and for the last 30 years has consulted widely on a range of tax policy issues for various public bodies. He has testified numerous times before various committees of Congress and is widely quoted in the international press.
He has served as a consultant to various U.S. states and to national governments — including Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, New Zealand, Peru, Romania, Spain, United States and Vietnam — on six continents; and to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development; and the United Nations’ Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters, a group that has prepared and updated the UN’s model tax treaty.
McIntyre has distinguished himself at Wayne State, as well.
In 1982, he was the first recipient of a Career Development chair, and in 1990, he received the Board of Governors Faculty Recognition Award for his book, “The International Income Tax Rules of the United States.” That two-volume treatise was updated annually through 2002. He is also the author (with B. J. Arnold), of a book titled “International Tax Primer,” the second edition of which was published in 2002.
McIntyre also has volunteered at Wayne State throughout his career. He has been a member of the Academic Senate for more than 20 years, and was the primary author of the final report created by an ad hoc committee formed to develop a new Board of Governors statute at Wayne on centers and institutes. He also served on various other university ad hoc committees, including the President’s Budget Advisory Committee in 2012.
The award was presented to McIntyre on Dec. 17 at the university president’s apartment during a lunch organized by Gilmour in the professor’s honor.

Butzel Long
Butzel Long attorney and shareholder Gary W. Klotz will be the featured speaker during a Hot Button Briefing program presented by the American Society of Employers Mid-Michigan Region on Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Bay City. Klotz will discuss “Michigan’s New Right-to-Work Law: What Employers and Human Resources Need to Know.”
On Dec. 12, right-to-work was signed into law in Michigan, making it the 24th state to not require workers to join a union or pay union dues as a condition of employment. During the program, Klotz will discuss how employers and Human Resources professionals can comply with this controversial new law administratively including how it will be implemented for employees under current union contracts, and in their communications with their unionized employees.
The program also will address the potential indirect effects of the law on non-unionized employers. “Non-unionized employers may assume that the right-to-work law is completely irrelevant to them because they have no union contracts with union security clauses,” said Klotz. “But for non-unionized employers, the right-to-work law may actually have the unintended consequence of making it easier for unions to organize non-unionized employees. Non-unionized employers need to understand the right-to-work law and how it may affect their employees’ receptiveness to union organizing in the future.”
Klotz has represented employers in labor and employment law matters for more than 30 years. He is the author of numerous articles about labor and employment law, and he regularly speaks at management education programs about labor and employment law issues. Klotz is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.
