The Third Circuit Court Civil and Family Divisions will close at noon on Friday, March 29 in observance of Good Friday.
In observance of Good Friday, the 36th District Court will be closed to the public on Friday, March 29. Only criminal arraignments will be conducted.
The Wayne County Probate Court will close at noon in observance of Good Friday on Friday, March 29 and will reopen on Monday, April 1 at 8 a.m.
Free Legal aid with child support at Detroit Public Library April 13
Free help with child support issues is available for payers who cannot afford to pay arrearages owed to the state or have an unaffordable child support cycle.
Attorneys from the Salvation Army William Booth Legal Clinic and the Legal Aid and Defender Office will be at the main branch of the Detroit Public Library Saturday, April 13, from 1-4 p.m. to help payers prepare motion packets to change child support and to reduce or waive state-owed arrearages.
This one-day event is part of the Every Day Legal Issues Seminar hosted by the Detroit Public Library, located at 5201 Woodward Ave. The event is free and there is limited free parking at the Putnam Street lot behind the library.

Volunteers at District Court are focus of new Court Stories video
A husband-and-wife volunteer team who welcome, guide, and reassure visitors to Novi’s 52-1 District Court are among those featured in the newest episode in Court Stories, the Michigan Supreme Court’s online video series.
“Novi District Court: Volunteers Are Priceless” explains how the court staffed a customer service desk with volunteers, including retirees, who help visitors navigate the court. Volunteers also assist court staff, freeing employees for other duties. Student volunteers in the probation department get practical experience in the criminal justice system as a basis for future careers.
Judge Brian W. MacKenzie of the 52nd District Court said that part of the volunteer program is aimed at making the court experience less intimidating. “Much of the time, visitors don’t know what to expect and aren’t sure where to go,” MacKenzie said. “Our volunteers provide a friendly face, and they’re also well trained so that they can make the experience easier.”
The story features MacKenzie, Court Administrator Joyce A. Renfrow, and district court staff and volunteers. Editing and design was provided by Brian Town of Michigan Creative in East Lansing.
Court Stories tells the everyday stories of Michigan courts and the people they serve. The series is on the “Michigan Courts” YouTube channel and on the Court’s web site.
New Court Stories videos will be announced as they are posted to the “Michigan Courts” YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/MichiganCourts?feature=plcp, and the Michigan Courts “One Court of Justice” web site.
