 Gov. Snyder signs bill classifying fire inspectors as police officers

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Rick Snyder has signed legislation letting cities classify fire arson investigators as police officers.

Until now, only cities with a population of 750,000 could do so. That’s a category that once included Detroit alone and now has no members since Detroit’s population fell below that level.
 
The bill that Snyder signed Monday also extends state police officer certification to a person employed as a police officer in another state within the past year. It requires that the other state have substantially similar certification standards to Michigan.

Snyder’s office says he also signed a bill Monday that establishes a special volunteer license for retired health care professionals who volunteer at health clinics that provide free or low-cost medical services for indigent or uninsured people.
 
 

Polish American Legal Society  to host Holiday Party Dec. 7

 
The Polish American Legal Society (PALS) will host its Holiday Party on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the American Polish Cultural Center, 2975 E. Maple Rd. in Troy.  The evening will consist of dinner, cocktails, music provided by Little Davy and the Diplomats.  Formal attire is requested.  PALS supports Toys for Tots and guests are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate at the party. Support is greatly appreciated. Ticket price for the party is $50 per person, $500 per table. AG appoints Isaacs Oakland County Public Administrator 

 
Dickinson Wright attorney Thomas Isaacs has been appointed as an Oakland County Public Administrator by Attorney General Bill Schuette. 
 
The County Public Administrator has oversight responsibilities in deceased estate probate matters where there are no heirs or unknown heirs and no will.  

Isaacs is an associate in the firm’s Detroit office. He focuses his practice on litigation. He has experience representing a diverse lineup of corporations in a variety of commercial litigation cases. He is routinely responsible for all phases of litigation in commercial cases. He was recognized by Michigan Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star” in Business Litigation. Isaacs received his B.A. from Oakland University and his J.D. from
Wayne State University Law School.
