Registration open for June 2 Wayne Law Golf Outing; sponsorship opportunities available

Registration is open and sponsorship opportunities are available for the 2014 Wayne Law Golf Outing, set for Monday, June 2, at the Country Club of Detroit.

The outing, which at one time was at various courses throughout the area for more than 15 years, is returning this year to bring together alumni and friends of the Wayne State University Law School for a day of golf and to fund an endowed student scholarship.

Check-in on the day of the scramble-format event for foursomes is set for 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and a 1 p.m. shotgun start. A cocktail reception and dinner will follow play, as will presentations of golfer awards, a scholarship award and an update from Wayne Law Dean Jocelyn Benson.
Wayne Law Golf Outing Committee members are Chairman David Galbenski of Lumen Legal, Henry Brennan III of Howard & Howard, Anthony Dietz of Law Offices of Shannon Shaya PC, Wayne Law Professor Peter Henning, Paul Hines of Gasiorek Morgan & Greco PC, David McClaughry of Ingrassia Fisher & Lorenz PC, Wayne Law student Lorenzo Parker and Brittany Schultz of Dykema Gossett PLLC.

Executive order to strengthen state’s mental health services

Gov. Rick Snyder last week expanded the scope and responsibilities of the Mental Health and Wellness Commission and the Mental Health Diversion Council through Executive Order 2014-7.
Both the commission and council are chaired by Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, and were established last year by Snyder through executive orders to enhance support for mental health initiatives in Michigan.
“The Mental Health and Wellness Commission and the Mental Health Diversion Council have each done great work finding solutions to improve the education, prevention, treatment of and recovery from mental illnesses in our state,” Snyder said. “I am confident these changes will only improve upon the great work that’s already being done.”
The commission is located within the Michigan Department of Community Health. It advises the department to help strengthen the state’s mental health system.
The executive order amends EO 2013-6, which created the commission, to add additional responsibilities. It is now also tasked with reviewing and recommending solutions to overcoming transportation challenges for those with developmental disabilities, mental illnesses, and substance use disorders; supporting the expansion of the scope of the diversion council to include juvenile justice; developing transition planning for parents and children, and evaluating the policies, programs and services outlined in the commission’s report. The order also extends the sunset date of the commission to Dec. 31, 2015.
