Jackson elected president of Straker Bar Association

Michael K. Jackson II, an associate in the Detroit office of Miller Canfield, has been elected president of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association, a diverse organization of attorneys that promotes legal practice opportunities for minorities and women.

Jackson is a member of Miller Canfield’s Employment and Labor Group. He assists both private and public employers in various aspects of labor and employment counseling and litigation, including advising public school district clients on a variety of issues, including special education. He also assists government contractors and subcontractors with enforcing and implementing Executive Order 11246. To that end, he drafts affirmative action plans, assists with implementing and/or revising existing affirmative action plans, and provides guidance and counsel with OFCCP audits and/or conciliation agreements.

He is a graduate of the Howard University School of Law (J.D., 2009) and earned a B.S. and MBA from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University.

Firm raises more than $10,000 for American Cancer Society

Trott & Trott, P.C. (Trott), a Farmington Hills.-based real estate finance law firm, donated funds and volunteered their time to support the American Cancer Society through their participation in the Farmington Hills Relay For Life.

The Farmington Hills Relay For Life took place over 24 hours on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18 in Shiawassee Park. A total of 35 employees and three co-captains from Trott, along with their family and friends, joined forces for a fifth consecutive year as “The TFC Trotters” Relay For Life team, each donating a minimum of four hours of their time for a total of 152 hours contributed. Additionally, Trott employees raised $7,384.15 toward the cause, with Trott providing a company donation of $2,680 to bring the grand total to $10,064.15.

“We are proud that our company has participated in Relay For Life for five consecutive years, raising over $62,000 to support cancer research,” said Trott Managing Partner Jeffrey Raff. “This year our employees and their families worked hard to raise funds through bake sales, an auction, craft shows, a bowling event and many other donations to reach their goal donation of $10,000.”

The Relay for Life initiative is a part of Trott’s corporate giving program, which has previously benefited other local charities, including Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and Oakland Family Services.
