Teen pleads not guilty in girl’s shooting death
PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — The suspect in the deadly shooting of a 12-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet while riding a scooter in northern New Jersey has pleaded not guilty.
Jhymiere Moore had an initial court appearance on Friday.
The 19-year-old pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and weapons charges in the death of Genesis Rincon.
Moore’s lawyer, Harley Breite, says Moore turned himself in because he heard he was a target of the investigation.
Police believe the suspect was aiming a handgun at someone else when the girl was struck in the head on Saturday night in Paterson. She was kept on life support until Monday night so her organs could be donated.
Moore’s bail was kept at $3 million, but Breite says he will file a motion to get that reduced.

State high court grants new trial in 2007 homicide
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Supreme Court has granted a new trial for a Milwaukee man convicted of homicide.
A jury found Jimothy Jenkins guilty of being party to first-degree intentional homicide in connection with a street shooting in 2007 that left Anthony Weaver dead. Jenkins was sentenced to life in prison.
He argued that his attorney was ineffective because he failed to call an eyewitness to testify that Jenkins wasn’t the shooter.
The First District Court of Appeals rejected Jenkins’ argument last year. The Supreme Court reversed that decision Friday, ruling 5-2 that Jenkins has shown his attorney was ineffective.
The state Department of Justice defended Jenkins’ appeal. An agency spokeswoman didn’t immediately return an email message seeking comment.

Police say woman was selling heroin on Craigslist site
NORWICH, Conn. (AP) — A man and woman from Uncasville have been charged with using the popular Internet site Craigslist to sell heroin.
Police tell the Norwich Bulletin they received an anonymous tip that led them to contact 18-year-old Alexis Chidester online and set up a drug deal.
They say she and 28-year-old Thomas Birbeck arrived Thursday at the predetermined location in Norwichtown with several hundred dollars worth of prepackaged heroin.
Both were charged with possession with heroin and possession with intent to sell. They were released on bonds of $25,000 and are due in court on July 24.
Neither Birbeck nor Chidester has a listed phone number and could not be reached for comment Friday morning.

Daughter of late judge charged in beating murder
PATERSON, N.J. (AP) — Authorities are accusing the daughter of a deceased municipal judge in northern New Jersey of beating her boyfriend to death on Valentine’s Day.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office says 59-year-old Andrea Consales is charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses. She’s held on $1.5 million bail and faces a court appearance on Monday.
Police responded to her home on Valentine’s Day and found her 44-year-old boyfriend, Giovanni Iuliano, on the floor with significant blunt force injuries. He died at a hospital.
The Record newspaper reports Consales’ father, Leon, served as a municipal judge in five north Jersey towns in the 1980s and 1990s. He died in 2006.
It’s not known if she has a lawyer.
