31st District Court launches www.31stdistrictcourt.net
The 31st District Court on Tuesday announced the launch of www.31stdistrictcourt.net, a website devoted to serving court users and the general public.
The new site will provide users with general information about the court, facts about the case process for civil, criminal and traffic matters, online payment options and helpful links and resources. Additional features include current fine and fee amounts, downloadable court forms and scheduling information.
About the new website, Chief Judge Paul J. Paruk said, “This website is another step towards the court’s goal of being as user-friendly as possible. The motivation behind the website is to provide court-users with a method for conducting court business 24/7, even when the physical location is closed.”
Heroin epidemic focus of WMU Cooley Law program January 30
“Silence Equals Death: How the Heroin Epidemic is Driving Change in Perception, Treatment, and the Law” is the title of a program and panel discussion at WMU Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills on Friday, Jan. 30 from 6-9 p.m.
The program will feature a screening of the film “The Anonymous People,” an acclaimed documentary about the 23.5 million Americans in long-term recovery and the movement that is changing the way addiction is perceived and treated.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Judge Jodi Debbrecht Switalski of the 51st District Sobriety Court and co-founder of RADEO (Regional Anti-Drug Education & Outreach); Andre Johnson, president and CEO of the Detroit Recovery Project; Erica Clute, contract management specialist for Meridian Health and regional chairperson of Families Against Narcotics; John Gilbreath, retired administrative law judge for the State of Michigan and an adjunct professor at Cooley; and panel moderator Lauren Rousseau, professor at Cooley and board member of Home of New Vision.

Land Forum workshop Jan. 20 to help residents buy vacant land in Detroit
A Land Forum workshop series is being offered to help Detroit residents through the process of buying vacant property in the city.
The next workshop, free and open to the public, is set from 5-8 p.m., Jan. 20, at the offices of the Eastside Community Network, 4401 Conner St. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP to Samira Guyot at sguyot@mi-community.org.
