 Kristin Murphy receives WLAM Regional Leadership Award

Brooks Kushman attorney Kristin Murphy received the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan’s (WLAM) Regional Leadership Award. WLAM will present the award during its 97th Annual Meeting on April 24 at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.

The Regional Leadership Award recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of a WLAM member who has demonstrated professionalism, excellence and dedication to furthering the objectives of WLAM.
 
Murphy’s practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property. She advises companies of all sizes on the development of their patent and trademark portfolios, brand enforcement and patent litigation.
Murphy earned her Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Western New England University, where she is a member of the Board of Trustees.

She also serves as the immediate past president of the Women’s Bar Association of Oakland County, president of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Association and is a member of the advisory council for The Pink Fund, a Michigan-based charity aiding women and men battling breast cancer.
 
 

Judge Halloran to lead  workshop on domestic violence cases in Cal.

 
Wayne County Circuit Judge Richard Halloran will be serving as a seminar discussion leader for the training program Enhancing Judicial Skills in Domestic Violence Cases Workshop. This training is offered by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges in partnership with Futures Without Violence and the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. The Judge will be sharing knowledge from his twenty-five years’ experience in working to prevent domestic abuse.
 
The four day training, April 25-April 29, 2015, in San Diego, CA offers hands-on, interactive workshops which provide an essential foundation for state, tribal and territorial judges and judicial officers enabling them to enhance their skills in adjudicating civil and criminal domestic violence cases. 

Judicial participants will leave the workshop with greater knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of violence which will help them better recognize all the circumstances involved in abusive relationships.
