TiE Detroit names attorney Sangeeta Shah charter member

The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) of Detroit, a global, non-profit community for entrepreneurs, named Sangeeta Shah as a charter member of the organization. The announcement was made by TiE Detroit President and CEO Tel K. Ganesan.

 Shah is a shareholder at the Detroit office of Brooks Kushman, the largest intellectual property law firm in Michigan.  There, she serves as chair of the Post Grant Practice Group and serves on the management committee as the Chief Diversity Officer. With more than two decades experience obtaining and litigating patents for local, national and international clients, Shah is often called upon to speak at conferences including Managing Intellectual Property’s Women’s Leadership Forum and the Global IP Convention.

 An avid member of the community, Shah is the founder of Retooling Detroit, an early literacy program aimed at reversing the literacy divide in Detroit.  She also is: on the executive committee for the Metropolitan Detroit Pipeline Coordinating Council; involved in the Isha Foundation, who she has represented at international conferences; the foundation representative on the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC); and a member of the leadership committee of the United States – India Political Action Committee (USINPAC).  Professionally, the recipient of numerous legal awards is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, Michigan Patent Law Association, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, American Chemical Society and Detroit Chamber of Commerce.

The West Bloomfield, Mich. resident received her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in chemistry and economics from Kalamazoo College and her juris doctor from Wayne State University.


FBA Book Club to  discuss ‘Blindfolds Off’ at May 26 meeting


Time to start reading!! The FBA Book Club will next meet at noon on Tuesday, May 26 in Room 722 of the Levin Courthouse for a discussion of “Blindfolds Off: Judges on How They Decide,” by Joel Cohen.

“Blindfolds Off” takes a fascinating look at what judges bring to their cases and how they decide them. In 13 interviews with federal judges about significant and controversial cases that came before them, New York criminal defense attorney Joel Cohen explores the role of the judiciary in an engaging manner.

All points of view will be welcomed and respected at the Book Club session. Cost: No charge for FBA members; $5 non-members. Lunch will be offered for $10 or bring your own.
