Judge Halloran attends training in workshops on domestic violence

Wayne County Circuit Judge Richard Halloran has been invited to become a trainer for the program Enhancing Judicial Skills in Domestic Violence Cases (EJS). This training is offered by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges in partnership with Futures Without Violence and the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. The Judge will share knowledge from his twenty-three years experience in working to prevent domestic abuse and participate in a training workshop to enhance his skills in training other judges.

The three day training, to be conducted July 8-10, 2015 in San Francisco, CA, will develop Judge Halloran’s skills in understanding the problem of domestic abuse and allow him to serve as a trainer of other judges, offering hands-on, highly interactive workshops that provide an essential foundation for new and experienced state, tribal and territorial judges and judicial officers to enhance their skills in handling civil and criminal domestic violence cases.

The next offerings of Enhancing Judicial Skills in Domestic Violence Cases will be October 4-7, 2015 in Atlanta, GA and December 6- 9, 2015 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Information on the training can be found at www.ncjfcj.org.

Miller Canfield advises City Office REIT on 2 leasing transactions

The law firm of Miller Canfield served as legal advisor to City Office REIT, Inc. on two leasing transactions totaling 325,987 square feet.

The leases are located in Washington Group Plaza in Boise, Idaho and Corporate Parkway in Allentown, Pennsylvania. According to the City Office press release, the leases represent a weighted average increase of approximately 2.3 percent over the current rental income. They also extend the average remaining lease term of the City Office portfolio from 4.6 years reported on March 31, 2015 to 6.1 years, assuming the leases were in-place at that time.

The Miller Canfield team, led by real estate principal Joseph M. Fazio (Ann Arbor), included John D. Moran (Ann Arbor) and Larry N. Woodard (Chicago).

“We are pleased to continue to work with City Office REIT,” said Fazio. Last year Miller Canfield assisted with its spin-out, “roll-up” and initial public offering.

“The Miller Canfield team has helped us tremendously over the past year and continues to be an invaluable resource for us as we navigate complex transactions across the U.S.,” said Jamie Farrar, CEO of City Office REIT.  “Their guidance and attention to every aspect of the transaction was instrumental in the successful closing of both deals.”
