Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss to host free educational event covering 2015 franchise law updates


Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C. is hosting a complimentary educational event through the Antitrust, Franchising & Trade Regulation Section of the State Bar of Michigan on the developments in employment law and international franchising this Friday, Sept. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The half-day event features two speakers; Kay Marie Ainsley, managing director for Michael H. Seid & Associates LLC, and Dean Heyl, vice president of government state relations, public policy and tax for the International Franchise Association. A panel discussion will also be held regarding minimum wage and joint employer issues. It will be moderated by Jaffe Partner Brian Witus, and will include James Reid IV, shareholder of Maddin Hauser Roth & Heller P.C., Robert Grabowski, CFO of Dortch Enterprises LLC and Jaffe Partner James Parks.

Brinks Gilson & Lione to host  post-grant patent webinar Sept. 29


Jon H. Beaupré, a shareholder in the Ann Arbor office of Brinks Gilson & Lione, will serve as a presenter for the third in a series of Brinks webinars hosted by the firm’s Post-Grant Practice Group on recent developments in post-grant proceedings. The webinar is Sept. 29, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. EST.

During the webinar, Beaupré will discuss recent proposed rule changes in America Invents Act (AIA) proceedings. He will be joined by his Brinks colleagues, Ralph Gabric from the firm’s Chicago office, who will speak on practice tips for inter partes review (IPR) success, and Allyn Elliott, from the firm’s Research Triangle office in North Carolina, who will speak on the evolution of motions to amend at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). 

At Brinks, Beaupré is co-chair of the firm’s Post-Grant Patent Practice Group. He focuses on litigation, proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), such as inter partes reviews (IPRs), and appeals.
