Atlanta lawyer new chair of Intellectual Property Law section

Theodore H. Davis Jr., a partner with Kilpatrick Townsend LLP in Atlanta, Ga., has assumed a one-year term for the 2015-16 year as chair of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law.

Davis has been a leader of the ABA-IPL section for 23 years. He has also been a member of the section council, as well as its Content Advisory Board, Books Editorial Board, Sponsorship Committee and Amicus Brief Committee. He was division chair of the Publications Division and of the Trademarks and Unfair Competition Division, in which he chaired a number of committees.

At Kilpatrick Townsend, Davis divides his practice between domestic and international litigation and client counseling in the fields of trademark, copyright, false advertising and unfair competition law, and has particular experience in trade dress disputes and with large-scale trademark clearance and registration projects. He has served as a member of the board of directors of the International Trademark Association, which he has represented in several amicus filings before the U. S. Supreme Court.

Davis has been recognized as one of Atlanta's "Legal Elite" by Georgia Trend magazine and as a 2010 Georgia "Super Lawyer" for intellectual property and intellectual property litigation by Super Lawyers magazine. For several years he has been named by Legal Media Group in its Guide to the World's Leading Trademark Law Practitioners and to its "Best of the Best USA 2011" as one of the top 25 practitioners for trademark law in the country. He has been listed for nine years in the Best Lawyers in America® for intellectual property law and has been recognized by the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers for trademark law and by the International Who's Who of Trademark Lawyers in 2015, Davis received the prestigious Burton Award, which recognizes excellence in legal writing, for his article POM Wonderful LLC v. Coca-Cola Co.: The Supreme Court Juices Up Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act, published as the cover story for the September/October 2014 issue of Landslide® magazine.

Davis received his B.A. degree from Davidson College and his J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School.
