NALS of Michigan to hold 55th annual meeting April 8-10 in Livonia

NALS of Michigan's Annual Meeting and Educational Conference entitled "Destination Success" will be held on April 8-10 at the Detroit Marriott Livonia-Laurel Park in Livonia. Legal education sessions and an exhibit hall will be held Friday, April 8. There are two morning and four afternoon presentations. The NALS of Michigan Annual Meeting will be held Saturday, April 9. There are sessions in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

Legal Education Seminar Schedule (Friday, April 8):

8:30-10:00 a.m. - Victoria Vuletich: Ethics How and Why the Legal Profession is Restructuring

Vuletich teaches Professional Responsibility at the Grand Rapids campus of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School where she has been on the faculty since 2008.

10:30 a.m. - Noon - Valerie Wertheimer: Microsoft Word Taming the Demons

Wertheimer is the corporate trainer for Clark Hill which currently has 12 office locations and over 300 attorneys.

1:30-3 p.m. - Session 1 - Corey Silverstein: Litigation and Social Media

Silverstein is the managing and founding member of the Law Offices of Corey D. Silverstein, P.C.

1:30-3 p.m. - Session 2 - Richelle McFate: Microsoft Outlook Tips and Tricks

McFate is the help desk and training coordinator for the Michigan law firm, Foster Swift Collins & Smith, PC. She has been providing end-user technical support and software training to legal professionals for more than 15 years.

3:30-5 p.m. - Session 1 - Arlyn Bossenbrook: What Happens to You and Your Estate When You Don't Plan? Bossenbrook's practice emphasizes estate planning, trust preparation and administration, planning for incapacity, probating estates, elder law, business transactions, including the purchase and sale of businesses, and succession planning.

3:30-5 p.m. - Session 2 - Mark Heinrich: Where Do I find it? Effective Search Techniques for Finding Information and People

Heinrich is the head librarian at Dickinson Wright PLLC and was previously employed by Bodman Longley and Dahling.

NALS of Michigan Annual Meeting (Saturday, April 9)

The NALS of Michigan Annual Meeting will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m., with the annual presentation of the Certification Awards at the noon luncheon. There is an afternoon session followed by an evening Awards Banquet with the presentation of Legal Professional of Year Award and the installation of the officers elected and appointed at the daytime sessions.

Session Speaker Information:

Victoria A. Vuletich teaches Professional Responsibility at the Grand Rapids campus of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School where she has been on the faculty since 2008. Prior to joining the WMU Faculty, she served as former staff ethics counsel of the State Bar of Michigan, supervising the Practice Management Resource Center, counseling attorneys on ethics issues and prosecuting unauthorized practice of law matters. A nationally recognized expert in the law of professional responsibility and the business models of law practice, she is active in the American Bar Association Center for Professional Responsibility and is a fellow of the American Bar Association and the Michigan Bar Foundation. Vuletich is a frequent CLE speaker and is in the process of creating a national online CLE platform serving lawyers seeking to fulfill their CLE ethics credits.

Valerie Wertheimer is the corporate trainer for Clark Hill which currently has 12 office locations and over 300 attorneys. She has a vast array of legal support experience from her 24-year tenure with Clark Hill, by working as a legal secretary, then moving to the IT department as a help desk technician, managing the help desk, and finally as their corporate trainer. Wertheimer evaluates and recommends new software, and develops all of Clark Hill's training curriculum from new hire orientation to new software deployment

Corey D. Silverstein is the managing and founding member of the Law Offices of Corey D. Silverstein, P.C. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 2002, Silverstein attended the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and earned his Juris Doctor degree in 2006. Following law school, Silverstein founded the Law Offices of Corey D. Silverstein, P.C. in 2006 and for the past decade has focused his practice on criminal defense, civil litigation and transactional matters. He is especially knowledgeable in legal matters involving the Internet. Silverstein is licensed in numerous jurisdictions, including, Michigan, Arizona and the District Columbia. In addition to appearing before the Michigan Supreme Court, Silverstein has been quoted and published in the New York Times, FOX News, MSNBC, the Miami Herald, the Washington Post, the Detroit News and the Associated Press. Richelle McFate is the help desk and training coordinator for Foster Swift Collins & Smith, PC. She has been providing end-user technical support and software training to legal professionals for more than 15 years. In her current position, McFate uses remote access to troubleshoot a variety of software applications. Since joining Foster Swift, she has segued from writing articles and gathering tips and tricks for their monthly IT newsletter to developing content for their SharePoint portal.

Arlyn Bossenbrook's practice emphasizes estate planning, trust preparation and administration, planning for incapacity, probating estates, elder law, business transactions, including the purchase and sale of businesses, and succession planning. He was awarded the State Bar of Michigan's Institute of Continuing Legal Education Probate and Estate Planning Certificate Program. Bossenbrook attained a Bachelor of Arts from Calvin College in 1964 and a Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University Law School in 1967. He has been a practicing attorney in the State of Michigan since 1968. Bossenbrook is a founding member of Wealth Counsel LLC, and an active member of the Greater Lansing Estate Planning Council, the Mid-Michigan Chapter Financial Planning Association, and the Mid-Michigan Planned Giving Council.

Mark Heinrich is the head librarian at Dickinson Wright PLLC and was previously employed by Bodman Longley and Dahling. He received his BA degree in 1080 from the University of Detroit and his Master of Science Library Science for Wayne State University in 1984. Heinrich interests are baseball, beer and history, not necessarily in that order.
