U.S. Supreme Court refuses appeal in Arab-American festival case
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court is leaving in place a court ruling that found police in Michigan violated the rights of Christian activists who were ordered to leave an Arab-American festival in suburban Detroit.
The justices are not commenting Monday in rejecting an appeal from Wayne County.
The federal appeals court in Cincinnati held that police violated the free-speech rights of members of the Bible Believers group. They showed up at the festival in 2012 carrying a pig’s head and telling Muslims they would “burn in hell.”
Wayne County sheriff’s deputies told them to leave or be ticketed after the evangelists were pelted with rocks.
The case is Wayne County v. Bible Believers, 15-1090.

Eligibility: The $2,500 scholarship contest is open to anyone in the United States who is pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited college or university. Proof of enrollment is required. The scholarship is open to every major or degree. A check for the full amount will be made payable to the recipient’s college or university and the student will be expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.
To Apply: Students are to write an essay (maximum of 2,000 words) about how distracted driving impacted their life. The essay can be a personal story, a campaign they’ve been involved in, an article reference, or fiction or non-fiction story. The scholarship application and essay must be postmarked by July 15, 2016.
