Miami lawyer to receive ABA Pursuit of Justice Award

The American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section will honor Julie Braman Kane, a partner at Colson Hicks Eidson in Coral Gables, Fla., with its Pursuit of Justice Award during the American Bar Association Midyear Meeting in Miami. The award, which recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all, will be presented Saturday, Feb. 4, during the TIPS Welcome and Pursuit of Justice Award Reception from 6-7:30 p.m., in the Brickell Room at the InterContinental Hotel.

“The TIPS Plaintiffs Policy Task Force is very pleased to award Julie Braman Kane with the 2017 Pursuit of Justice Award,” said Sam H. Poteet, Jr., chair of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section.  “Dedicated to service for others, Julie has worked tirelessly to protect the right to a jury trial and access to courts.  She is a highly respected member of the Florida legal community and is recognized by her peers as a consummate professional.”

Kane has practiced at Colson Hicks Eidson since graduating from the University of Miami School of Law in 1993. Her litigation practice emphasizes representation of plaintiffs in products liability, personal injury, drug and device, business tort and class action litigation.

Kane is president of the American Association for Justice, serves as a member of its Board of Governors and has held past position in the association including past chair of the National Finance Council, the Products Liability section, the Women’s Caucus and the Voters Protection Action Committee. She is also past president of the Miami-Dade Florida Association for Women Lawyers and has served as a commissioner on the Florida Elections Commission from 2008-11. Kane is the recipient of the Marie Lambert Award from the Women’s Caucus and the Joe Tonahill Award from the Young Lawyers Section.

She is recognized as a SuperLawyer and a member of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite. She was also selected as one of the Top 20 2015 South Florida Women in Law by the Daily Business Review; was a 2009 recipient of the Daily Business Review’s Most Effective Lawyers Award in the field of receiverships; and is the 2010 recipient of the University of Miami School of Law’s Alumni Leadership Award and the South Florida Business Journal’s Women Extraordinaire Award.
