Detroit Mercy Law students place second in national transactional competition

Twelve teams competed in the National Championship of the 2017 Transactional LawMeet hosted by the New York offices of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. This year’s Transactional LawMeet case involved the sale of the brewing, bottling and wholesale distribution operations of Kombucha Hoocha Ltd. to a wholly-owned subsidiary of International Beverage Brands, Inc. The drafting stage took place over two months, with students drafting key sections of the purchase agreement, interviewing their clients, and marking up opposing teams’ drafts. The twelve teams that advanced to the national rounds included: Indiana University Maurer School of Law; Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University; The James E. Rogers College of Law at The University of Arizona; University of California, Los Angeles School of Law (two teams); University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law; University of Georgia School of Law (two teams); University of Kansas School of Law; University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law; University of Notre Dame Law School; University of San Diego School of Law (two teams); and University of Texas School of Law.

Ryan Kelly, Brandon Laurent Rebboah, and Nina Sugar-Carlsgaard from University of San Diego School of Law and Benjamin Hill and Steven Zavodnick from University of Georgia School of Law were named National Champions.
Adam Fucile and Joseph Tung from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and Ziyi He, Jeremy Himmelstein, and Renée Lani from University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law were named National Semi-Finalists.
Kimberley Johnson, Reema Kapoor, and Christine Ristow from University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and Jake Ediger, Justine Koehle, and Alison Kryzer from University of Kansas School of Law were named Best Draft recipients.
