Program provides students guidelines on what to do when stopped by police

The Michigan Children's Law Center hosted a program on "What to Do When Stopped by the Police" at East English Preparatory in Detroit on June 1. The panelists for the event were Detroit Police Officer Gerald Thomas, Youth Advocate Kamille Tynes, Attorney Robyn L. McCoy and Judge Frank Szymanski of the Wayne County Third Circuit Court Juvenile Division. The panelists provided the students with tips on how to safely engage with the police in different scenarios. The students were then able to ask questions of the panelists. MCLC will be doing more panels in the upcoming year to continue with its mission of helping to keep children safe and protect their rights.
