OCBA to present seminar on seeking equitable relief in Oakland Business Court
“Seeking Injunctive and Other Equitable Relief in Business Court” is the title of a Wednesday, April 25 seminar offered by the Oakland County Bar Association.
“Business Court practitioners seeking appointment of a receiver, injunctive relief or any other type of equitable relief need to understand how such motions are handled in the business court and what can be done to position their clients to obtain a favorable result,” a spokesperson for the OCBA said.
The program will feature a panel of experienced Business Court practitioners offering practical advice to help attorneys succeed in this specialized environment. Oakland County Circuit Judges James M. Alexander and Wendy L. Potts will attend to share their insights regarding practice in Oakland County Business Court. The seminar takes place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the OCBA offices, 1760 S. Telegraph Rd., Bloomfield Hills.
Panelists include: Joseph A. Doerr, of the Doerr Law Firm; Joseph K. Grekin, of Schafer and Weiner; and Robert Sosin, of Alspector Sosin & Noveck. Attorney Jordan S. Bolton, of Clark Hill, will moderate.
Topics of discussion will include the law underlying requests for equitable relief, including recent statutory amendments; drafting tactics to improve a client’s chances of success; and procedural tips and tricks to strengthen an argument in favor of or in opposition to such a request.

Judge appointed to help diocese deal with sex abuse claims
SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — A prominent judge who is retiring soon will help the Saginaw Roman Catholic Diocese deal with allegations of sexual abuse by priests.
Michael Talbot was introduced Friday by the Saginaw bishop. Talbot publicly urged victims to step forward and also pledged to share information with police whenever necessary.
Talbot is chief judge at the Michigan appeals court. He’s retiring this month.
The Rev. Robert DeLand was charged in February with sex crimes against two males. He was pastor at St. Agnes Church in Freeland. Another priest was suspended in March.
Bishop Joseph Cistone says he appointed Talbot because the 11-county diocese needs a “fresh start.” He says it’s been a “very distressing” time.
Talbot says he might get gas money but otherwise won’t be paid.
Michigan GOP sets 2 debates before gubernatorial primary
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Republicans running for Michigan governor will attend two televised debates before the August primary election.
WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids will host the first debate on May 9. WDIV-TV in Detroit will host the second debate on June 28.
All four viable candidates will participate: Attorney General Bill Schuette, Lt. Brian Calley, state Sen. Patrick Colbeck and Dr. Jim Hines.
It is unclear if Democratic candidates will have televised debates.
The Detroit Regional Chamber is planning a joint debate for candidates from both parties to be held at the group’s annual policy conference on Mackinac Island in late May.
