Attorney rejoins Cooley's faculty

WMU-Cooley Law School Tampa Bay campus Associate Dean Ron Sutton has announced the return of attorney Florise Neville-Ewell to the law school's faculty ranks. Neville-Ewell will teach Property Law at the Tampa campus.

Neville-Ewell, a Yale College and Yale Law School graduate, started her career as a law clerk with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Since then, she has worked in the public and private sectors and academia. A native of Chicago, she returned to that city after the clerkship to work as an associate at the law firm of Sidley and Austin. She returned to Michigan to work as an associate at Honigman Miller and later joined the faculty at Wayne State Law School. She previously held a position of tenured faculty at WMU-Cooley's Auburn Hills campus and most recently worked as general counsel for the Detroit Housing Commission and chief of contracts for the city of Detroit.

"Professor Neville-Ewell's experience brings an incredible depth of knowledge to our students taking courses in Property Law," said Sutton. "WMU-Cooley prides itself in educating practice-ready attorneys taught by the top practitioners from their legal field."

Throughout her career, Neville-Ewell published articles about real estate issues for the public. The former Charter One Bank published her "advice" columns and articles monthly in the Michigan Chronicle, a local Detroit newspaper. In conjunction with being the founder of the Ten Commandments of Real Estate Law Society (10CORE® Law Society), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating the public on property law issues through outreach, she remains dedicated to providing substantive town hall meetings for the public with law students and volunteer lawyers. The 10CORE® Law Society has provided outreach in Michigan, Florida, Georgia and Maryland. It is in the process of expanding nationally to bridge the gap between the public and providing "access to justice through legal literacy."
