Snyder names Donna Howard to 2nd Circuit Court in Berrien County

Gov. Rick Snyder today appointed Donna Howard of St. Joseph to the 2nd Circuit Court in Berrien County.

“Judge Howard has served her community with distinction throughout her career,” Snyder said. “I am confident that she will continue to serve the citizens of Berrien County well.”

Howard was elected as district judge to the Berrien County Trial Court in 2014. She has been assigned to both the Criminal and Civil Division and oversees the problem-solving courts. Howard also presides over the Business Court. Prior to serving as a judge, Howard served as Corporate Counsel to Berrien County.

Howard is a member of the Michigan District Judges Association, the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals, the Berrien County Bar Association, and the St. Joseph – Benton Harbor Rotary. She serves as a United Way volunteer and was previously a member of the American Bar Association, the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel, and the Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce.

Howard earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan in 1990 and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School in 1997.

Howard fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge John Donahue. She must seek election in November 2020 for the remainder of the term.

Attorney named chair-elect of board of Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center

Jessica Woll, managing partner of Woll & Woll, P.C., a divorce and family law firm specializing in child-centric divorce matters and complex family law issues, has been named chair-elect of the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center (BBAC).  A member of the board since June 2016, Woll has been an ardent supporter of the nonprofit visual arts organization and advocate of its community arts education and outreach programs for several years. The chair-elect position is a one-year term, at which time Woll will become board chair.

Woll hosted the BBAC’s Fine Art of Summer fundraiser at her Bloomfield Hills home in 2015, and also has multi-generational ties to the organization—Woll, in addition to her daughter and her mother, Pauline Woll, have all taken art classes at the BBAC.  Woll is also an avid world traveler and art collector; her collection includes Asian art and artifacts from her journeys, as well as works of art and sculpture from Northern Michigan artists. In April, the Woll & Woll law office was recognized for its commercial office design—a project conceived and executed by Woll herself—in the 2018 Detroit Home Design Awards.

Woll holds a Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Economic Development from the University of Michigan. She maintains a Lexis Nexis Top Lawyer rating and Martindale Hubbell’s AV Preeminent Peer Review rating. Woll is a member of the National Council of Jewish Women, Metro Detroit section, and the National Association of Professional Women. Among her many legal awards, Woll was most recently named a 2017 Michigan Super Lawyer in the practice area of family law and a 2018 Top Lawyer by DBusiness magazine.
