OCBA Vets Golf Outing rescheduled to Oct. 1st


The annual Oakland County Bar Association Veterans Committee Golf Outing, originally planned for September 17, has been rescheduled for Monday, Oct. 1 at Stonycroft Hills Golf Club in Bloomfield Hills.

The event, which will begin at 9 a.m., will serve as a fund-raiser for Americans Thank Our Troops and the Vets Returning Home Shelter, according to organizers. The cost is $100 per player, which includes a continental breakfast, 18 holes of golf with cart, beverages, and a luncheon following the outing. The cost of just the luncheon is $50.

Snyder signs research agreement with China
 

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan’s governor says he’s promoting the state’s leadership in mobility and autonomous vehicle technology development as part of his trade trip to China.

The office of Gov. Rick Snyder says he signed a memorandum of understanding Monday with China’s Ministry of Science and Technology that seeks to “further advance innovation and cooperation within the automotive and technology sectors, including new energy and autonomous vehicle technologies.”

The agreement to collaborate in automotive research, technology and innovation aims to accelerate the commercialization of emerging technologies.

The Republican governor is on an eight-day investment mission to China , his eighth trip as governor to Michigan’s third-largest export market. On Sunday, the governor and his delegation met with representatives from Chinese travel media outlets to discuss tourism and leisure travel opportunities in Michigan.

 

Portrait of Tarnow to be unveiled Oct. 19
 

A portrait unveiling ceremony for U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 19, in Courtroom 100 of the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in downtown Detroit. The public is invited to attend. The ceremony will honor Judge Tarnow’s 20 years on the federal bench. He was appointed in 1998 by President Bill Clinton. Event to celebrate Spirit of Detroit sculpture’s anniversary Sept. 21
 

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit-Wayne Joint Building Authority is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the dedication of the Spirit of Detroit sculpture.

A free program is scheduled Sept. 21 (Friday) at the sculpture outside the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center in downtown Detroit.

The sculpture by artist Marshall Fredericks was commissioned in 1955. The bronze cast was made in Norway and shipped to Detroit where the 26-foot-tall (7.9-meter-tall) sculpture was dedicated in September 1958.

About $170,000 in restoration improvements were made to the sculpture in time for its 50th anniversary.
