Cryptocurrency topic of panel discussion October 9 at OCBA
A panel discussion on Corporate Compliance in the Age of Cryptocurrency will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Oakland County Bar Association in Bloomfield Hills.
“Bitcoin, blockchain, cryptocurrency. What are they? How do they work? What are the legal implications of their use in a corporate setting?” asked a spokesperson for the OCBA.
“With financial institutions like Goldman Sachs planning to open its own Bitcoin trading unit, it won’t be long before corporate clients will be entering into contracts based on the value of cryptocurrency and they will expect their lawyers to protect their interests. The Oakland County Bar Association has assembled a panel of experts to address the legal implications of cryptocurrency in a corporate environment.”
The panelists include: Patrick E. Corbett, of United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Michigan; John Gleeson, Storj Labs; and Michael P. Hindelang, of Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn. They will present an analysis of the intersection between current business laws and the burgeoning cryptocurrency landscape. They will explore the development of this digital technology and procedures for following corporate and criminal law.

Judge Tarnow portrait unveiling ceremony set for October 19
A portrait unveiling ceremony for U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow will be held at 2 p.m., Oct. 19 in Courtroom 100 of the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse in downtown Detroit. The public is invited to attend.
The ceremony will honor Tarnow’s 20 years on the federal bench. He was appointed in 1998 by President Bill Clinton. For additional information, call 313-234-5180.
