‘Diversity and Implicit Bias Training’ offered by OCBA, Nov. 18


The Oakland County Bar Association will present “Diversity and Implicit Bias Training” as an online Zoom program on Wednesday, November 18, from 9 to 11 a.m.

This interactive training will combine lecture with small-group breakout sessions to help trainees understand and acknowledge that differences do exist. Topics of discussion will include:

• Terms associated with diversity and bias

• How cultural differences may affect interactions among individuals

• Cultural competence

• Methodologies for addressing diversity issues

Speaking at the program will be Earlene Baggett-Hayes of Law & Mediation Center PLLC.

Space for this seminar is limited to 24 and it will not be videotaped.  Credit has been approved with the Oakland County Bar Association for 2 Criminal credits and 2 Juvenile credits.

Cost for the seminar is $40 for OCBA members; $30 for OCBA new lawyers, paralegals, and students; and $60 for non-members.  MIDC court appointed attorneys can attend for free.

Michigan Defense Trial Counsel concludes its winter webinar series
 

The Michigan Defense Trial Counsel (MDTC) will conclude its winter webinar series on “Mastering the Craft: Winning Methods in the Dying Art of Trial Advocacy.”  Part 3 will take place Friday, December 4, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom and will be moderated by Frederick Livingston of Novara, Tesija, & Catenacci.  Topics include:

• Revisiting Conventional Wisdom About Trial Practice—Daniel Quick, of Dickinson Wright PLLC, will draw on his vast and recent experience to reveal novel approaches to winning at trial and will test common notions of how such success is achieved.

• Successful Jury Selection: What Every Lawyer Needs To Do and Must Avoid—James P. Feeney, of Dykema Gossett PLLC, will relate a lifetime of lessons in the esoteric art of picking a winning jury.

The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session.

Court reschedules Public Administrative Hearing to Jan. 20
 

The Michigan Supreme Court announced that the  Public  Administrative  Hearing  previously  scheduled  for November  18,  2020  will now be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. A notice of the administrative matters on the agenda will be posted and circulated approximately four weeks before the hearing.
