‘Unconscious Bias’ focus of ALA educational meeting
The Association of Legal Administrators, Metropolitan Detroit Chapter, will host a Breakfast Educational Meeting presented by the Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion & Advancement on Thursday, January 13, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Troy Marriott’s Dennison Junior Ballroom, 200 W. Big Beaver Rd. in Troy.
The Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion & Advancement (CADIA) is a learning and advisory organization focused on diversity equity and inclusion. Its mission is to double the number of diverse leaders in the automotive industry by 2030. CADIA is championing diverse talent, driving systemic change, and supporting leadership commitment.
There has been a lot of talk about Unconscious Bias as it related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. By understanding that all are biased, everyone can become more aware of their thoughts and actions when relating to others. Everyone can learn to pause and put conscious thought behind our actions.
Cheryl Thompson of CADIA will lead a conversation to identify and discuss specific types of bias and begin thinking about them in new ways; understand how bias can show up in the legal world and discuss those implications; recognize and address bias and its impact; and move toward playing an advocacy role in influencing those with power and influence.

Nessel shares new video focused on dangerous toy guide
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has a new video that highlights the Department of Attorney General’s 2021 Dangerous Toys Guide, an important resource to check before those final gifts are crossed off the list.
The guide is part of Nessel’s ongoing holiday consumer protection campaign, which first launched last month, and provides important information to keep in mind while shopping for toys.
“We want to ensure all Michiganders protect their wallets and their children this season, that’s why our Consumer Protection team put together this dangerous toys guide to promote safety tips and share recent recalls before you purchase those remaining gifts,” Nessel said.
The new video can be viewed on the Department’s YouTube page.
Residents can follow the AG’s official Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages along with subscribing to the department’s consumer alerts to receive the most up-to-date consumer news, as well as an updated dangerous toy guide, and holiday newsletter.
