The Michigan Bankers Association (MBA) has selected Congresswoman Debbie Dingell as the 2021 Economic Impact Award recipient. The Economic Impact Award (EIA) recognizes public officials for their outstanding leadership on matters of public policy supporting and encourage a vibrant Michigan economy.

“The MBA commends Congresswoman Debbie Dingell on her on-going efforts to create responsible public policy that is pragmatic and creates a more prosperous Michigan for all its citizens,” stated T. Rann Paynter, president and CEO of MBA.

“Since coming to Congress, I’ve made it a priority to be a voice for the hard-working families of Michigan. From fighting for domestic manufacturing to securing small business loans in the American Rescue Plan, we can support Michigan’s economy. But I couldn’t do it without the support of Michiganders who advocate alongside me,” said Dingell. “It’s such an honor to receive this award and I am grateful that I get to come to work for the people of Michigan each day – including the amazing members of the Michigan Bankers Association.”

Dingell represents the 12th District of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives. Before being elected to Congress, she was the chair of the Wayne State University (WSU) Board of Governors.

For more than 30 years Dingell served one of Michigan’s largest employers, the General Motors (GM) Corporation, where she was president of the GM Foundation and a senior executive responsible for public affairs. She is a past chair of the Manufacturing Initiative at the American Automotive Policy Council.

Much of Dingell’s recent work has been focused on ethical issues and social responsibility as they relate to government and business. She co-chaired One United Michigan, which sought to preserve and support programs that ensure equal opportunity in Michigan. She chairs the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition, a statewide organization that brings business, labor, and government together to find commonality on issues.  A known “bridge-builder,” she continues to promote and lead efforts toward greater understanding among people of differing points of views and backgrounds.

The Michigan Bankers Association (MBA), the voice of the banking industry since 1887, consists of Michigan financial institutions with more than 2,800 branches located throughout the state. The MBA promotes strong communities and economic activity in Michigan by advancing a positive business environment. MBA assists banks by offering products and services to reduce expenses and increase profitability through the strength of the association.
