MSU vs. U of M Football weekend Celebrate at Waterloo State Recreation Area

Get ready for the biggest game of Michigan's college football season by joining staff and fellow campers at Waterloo State Recreation Area in Jackson County for the Michigan State vs. University of Michigan Football Weekend taking place Friday through Sunday, Oct. 14-16 at the park's Portage Lake Campground, located at 16345 McClure Rd. in Chelsea. The campground, which is centrally located between the two universities, is an ideal location for the big weekend. Activities planned throughout the weekend include: a punting contest, quarterback toss, and the big MSU vs. U of M Tug of War, so bring the kids and tailgate in your camper or tent. Decorate your campsite in favorite school colors and game-day paraphernalia and compete for awards for the best-decorated MSU or U of M campsite. Times of all events will be determined by the actual game time. For details, contact the Waterloo State Recreation Area office at 734-475-8307. The Recreation Passport has replaced motor vehicle permits for entry into Michigan state parks, recreation areas and state-administered boating access fee sites. This new way to fund Michigan's outdoor recreation opportunities also helps to preserve state forest campgrounds, trails, historic and cultural sites in state parks, and provides park development grants to local communities. Michigan residents can purchase the Recreation Passport ($10 for motor vehicles; $5 for motorcycles) by checking ''YES'' on their license plate renewal forms, or at any state park or recreation area. Nonresident motor vehicles must still display a valid nonresident Recreation Passport ($29 annual; $8 daily) to enter a Michigan state park, recreation area or state-administered boating access fee site; these can be purchased at any state park or recreation area, or through the Michigan e-Store at www.michigan.gov/estore.
