Board presents honors for area Tuskegee Airmen
The Oakland County Board of Commissioners will honor area Tuskegee Airmen on Wednesday, March 7. The special recognition will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. where the public will have an opportunity to meet surviving airmen.
To date, 10 documented Tuskegee Airmen from the Metro Detroit Area have committed to attend the event. The average age of living airmen ranges from 89-94. Airmen from Farmington Hills, Bloomfield Hills, Southfield, West Bloomfield, Detroit, and Garden City will be honored. Representatives from the Tuskegee Airmen Museum will be on hand to share information and the public will be able to see a table display reflecting the history of the Tuskegee Airmen.
At 7 p.m., the commissioners will present proclamations honoring the airmen, during the Board's meeting, in the Oakland County Board of Commissioners' Auditorium, located at 1200 North Telegraph Road in Pontiac. The event is free to the public.
