Ingham County forfeitures down 9%
The last day to pay 2010 delinquent property taxes was February 29. On March 1, 2012, unpaid 2010 delinquent property taxes were forfeited to Ingham County, starting a 13-month process that results in the County Treasurer owning the property if no one pays the taxes by March 31, 2013.
Last year, 2,914 parcels were forfeited. This year, only 2,649 parcels were forfeited - a 9% reduction in the total number of parcels forfeited county wide.
''These numbers represent encouraging improvement, but we must continue to fight for working class families facing home foreclosure and other hardships,'' said Ingham County Treasurer Eric Schertzing.
