MSU Law Students Marvin and Grunwald place First in Regional LawMeet

Michigan State University College of Law students Brittany Marvin and Annalisa Grunwald both won first place awards presented in the Third Annual Transactional LawMeet Regional Rounds on Feb. 17, 2012 in Springfield, MA. Marvin and Grunwald, both students in the Small Business & Nonprofit Clinic, won first place in both award categories: Team Negotiation and Best Draft. After contributing countless hours of preparation, the pair participated in three rounds of negotiation, each lasting approximately one hour. Coached by Clinical Fellow Reid Felsing and Professor Nicole Dandridge, the team was praised by the judges for their keen understanding of the facts presented. Though the judges believed their party had the weaker position, the team remained persistent and obtained the upper hand throughout the negotiations. They will be advancing to the National Meet in Philadelphia from March 29-30, 2012. The Transactional LawMeet is the premier "moot court" experience for students interested in transactional law practice. The primary goal of the LawMeet is to provide the participating teams with an engaging simulation of transactional practice that is designed to give law students a hands-on experience in developing and honing transactional lawyering skills. Each Meet presents essential challenges in transactional problem solving, similar to the daily issues seen in corporate departments at law firms or in-house counsel at corporations.
