BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- The last thing Sandra Walker remembers is telling a friend she would see her in church the next morning.
Then she woke up in St. Mary's of Michigan hospital three days later.
Walker, 53, of Buena Vista Township suffered a stroke March 18 and a subsequent heart attack in the hospital. It's because of her 10-year-old grandson, DeQuavion Mitchell, and 14-year-old neighbor, Victoriano Salines, that she's alive.
That Sunday started as normal when DeQuavion went to get breakfast. He checked in on his grandmother, who raised him as her son since he was two months old, and found her on the floor, unresponsive but breathing. Walker believes she was getting ready for church, as her clothes were on her bed. She doesn't remember getting up.
"I couldn't wake her up," DeQuavion said. "She looked at me, but she didn't know who I was."
The boy ran to his neighbor's home, where he found Victoriano. The two again tried to wake Walker, and Victoriano then called 911. DeQuavion, a fourth-grade student at Saginaw Preparatory Academy, was able to answer questions about Walker's health history and started calling family members.
"If it wasn't for them, I would have died," she said, with tears in her eyes. DeQuavion walked over and put his arms around her for a long moment. "They are my heroes."
