Governor names board to keep eye on Detroit finances

LANSING (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has named members of a nine-person state board that will oversee Detroit's finances post-bankruptcy. The Detroit Financial Review Commission will first meet today. The board was created as a condition for Michigan committing $195 million toward ending the city's bankruptcy. Among those named to the commission Monday are former University of Michigan athletic director Bill Martin. Others appointed by Snyder are Darrell Burks, former senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers; Stacy Fox, senior vice president and general counsel with chemical industry giant DuPont; Lorron James, vice president with the James Group International; and Tony Saunders, ex-emergency manager of Benton Harbor. Under Michigan law, others on board are state Treasurer Kevin Clinton, budget director John Roberts, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and City Council President Brenda Jones or their designees.
